Richard A. Thompson 13 Sept 12:21:02 2003
On this date of 09/12/03, I Richard A. Thompson of Austin, Texas, am requesting any information that can be sent to me via this e-mail address, [email protected], pertaining to my ancestors whom I believe lived in Cass County, Illinois. I am searching particularly for the information about Charles E. Berry and/or his family members. The 1880 census lists him as a 46 year-old merchant living in Buena Vista, Colorado, but having come from Illinois and having been born in Ohio. His 42 year-old wife Maria V. (which I believe stands for Virginia, because that name runs through four generations of females in the family) is reported to have been from Virginia, which may be the community in Illinois by that name. Her maiden name might have been Hamilton. I have evidence of other family members in 1904 as living in Ashland (an uncle Sam), a Win, Rene and Solomon living in Carlinville, and another relative in Jacksonville. I realize how sketchy these clues are. But if any one of them is a key to family origins in that part of Illinois, I would much appreciate knowing about it. Thank you.

been searching for any information regarding my great grandmother. Her name is
Amanda Powers. She resided at Drusillah Wells home in Beardstown, Il. She died
there around Aug. 25, 1869, a few days after giving birth to my grandfather. The
only 'solid' information we have regarding Amanda came to my grandfather in 1895, by
letter written by Jas. Wells who's address at that time was Corner of G and Canal St.,
Beardstown. Amanda Powers was married to Elsworth Powers. He left after
Amanda died and Drusillah Wells raised baby Powers until she passed away several
years--after her death (Drusillah's) my grandfather was adopted by a family from
Cumberland County , Illinois by the name of "Boy".
I have been trying to search and find any information about Amanda. We do not even know her maiden name but since she died in Beardstown, thought there might be a record about her death. From Jas. Wells' letter, we understand she was buried in the "Old Wells Cemetery". Any information would be greatly appreciated. We are planning to be in Beardstown around May 5 or 6. Thanking you in advance for any leads you might give us concerning information regarding Amanda Powers who died in Beardstown, Aug. 25,1869.
Patricia Rhodes (Dusty) great granddaughter of Amanda & Elsworth Powers.

I am interested in the possible family connection between Henry Ruppel, a dealer in boots and shoes in Cass County, IL in 1869, and Henry Ruppel, a manufacturer of shoes in Brooklyn, NY at the same time. The Brooklyn Ruppel is my wife's gggrandfather. Both men came from Hessen-Darmstadt and were born within 3 years of each other. Both arrived in New York City in the early 1850's and were shoemakers. The Cass Co. Ruppel left New York City and went to Rochester, NY, then to Springfield, IL via Chicago, and finally to Beardstown in March 1869. We are searching for the family of Agness Trotter
who died in Jefferson Co., IN in about 1824.
In her will she named,
Dau Margaret McNutt, w/o Alexander McNutt
Gdau, Nancy Luston
Elizabeth, w/o James Sebree
Sons, Samuel and Robert
We think that son Samuel is the Samuel who died in Cass Co. in 1844. He named sons Milton, John, and Israel.
We know that Milton died in Decatur Co. about 1890. We think John is the John that died in a cyclone in Litterberry in 1883. Israel appears to be the Israel in the Shaker Community in Warren Co., OH in 1860.
We think that Margaret McNutt is the Margaret McNutt living with Sam (Lane?) Garrison in Cass Co. in 1850.
Any and all help is welcome.
