Geraldine M. Raymond - 1922-2003 - Virginia

   Geraldine M. Raymond, 80, of Virginia, died Saturday evening, May 31, 2003 at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown.
   She was born July 26, 1922 in Payson, the daughter of Ray A. and Elsie Pearl Dixon Copeland. She married Gerald Lee Raymond on June 4, 1940, in Fort Madison, Iowa and he preceded in death April 8, 1985.
   She is survived by one son, Roger Raymond of Bushnell; one daughter, Jean Hager of Virginia; seven grandchildren, Tim Hager of Marathon, Fla., Kim Hays of Bowling Green, Mo., Bruce Raymond of Clayton, Ind., Richard Raymond of Coatesville, In., Lynn Walker of Beardstown, Joanne Pontifex of Macomb, and Catherine Ellis of Plainfield, Ind.; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Dennis of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by twin grandsons, Christopher and Jeffery Raymond in infancy; one brother, Roy A. Copelan; and one sister, Zelma Shryack.
   Mrs. Raymond was a graduate of Plymouth High School. She moved to Virginia with her husband in 1955 to manage West Food Store on the Virginia square. She and her husband later purchased the store, which became Raymond's Red & White Food Store, where they worked until retirement in 1977. She was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church and the former Virginia American Legion Post Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and harvesting tomatoes and fruit.
   Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice or Shriners Hospital for Children.

Phyllis D. Reichert - 1914-2003 - Bluff Springs, Illinois

    Phyllis D. Reichert, 88, of Bluff Springs, died Saturday morning, Feb. 8, 2003 at her residence.
    She was born Feb. 28, 1914, in Virginia, the daughter of Rudolph and Bessie Trussell Jokisch. She married Roy Reichert March 8, 1936,
at the home of her parents in Bluff Springs, and he preceded her in death. Jan. 16, 1996.
    She is survived by one son, Randal (wife, Sue) of Bluff Springs; one daughter, Kathy McMurl (companion, Terry Buhlig) of Bluff  Springs; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Jokisch.
    Mrs. Reichert graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1931. She also graduated from Decatur Macon County Hospital School
of Nursing in 1935 as a registered nurse. She was an active member of the Bluff Springs United Methodist Church, Beardstown Woman's Club,
and the First National Bank of Beardstown Premiere Choice Club. She enjoyed spending every Tuesday with the "Girls' Club" and going out
to eat. She was a frequent writer for Capper's Weekly and delighted in spending many hours working puzzles, reading, and following her
favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
    Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Bluff Springs United Methodist Church, with burial at the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 4:30-7 p.m. today at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Her remains will also lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday. Memorials are suggested to the Bluff Springs United Methodist Church or Elks Crippled Children.

A. [Arthur] Lee REYNOLDS

     A. Lee Reynolds, 81, of Virginia, died Sunday evening, February 24, at his residence.
     He was born September 7, 1920, in Cass County (near Philadelphia), the son of Arthur R. and Eva O. Jokisch Reynolds. He married Carrie Mae Sidebottom on August 28, 1950, in Pochantas, AK, and she survives.
     He also is survived by two sons, Don Reynolds (wife Kay) of Virginia and Bill Reynolds of Virginia; two grandsons; twin granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.
     He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy.
     Mr. Reynolds was a life long resident of Virginia and graduated from Virginia High School in 1938. He worked for the Virginia Gazette prior to serving with the US Navy from 1942-1946, stationed at the Panama Canal. Following World War II he purchased the Peterson Service Station on the square in Virginia, which is still operated today by his two sons. He opened a second gas station and convenience store on the south end of Virginia in 1982 and continued to work then until August 2001.
     A devoted mason, Mr. Reynolds was a long time member of Virginia Lodge #544 AF & AM where he was past master, recently installed again as Worshipful Master, and had served as the lodge's secretary for 27 years. He was also a member of the Adah Robinson Chapter #276 Order of Eastern Star, Ansar Shrine, Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite and was named an honorary member of several area masonic lodges. In addition, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Virginia and a sponsor and avid fan of the Reynolds & Sons softball team.
     Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.
     Masonic services were conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial gifts are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, Virginia Park System or Virginia Masonic Lodge #544.
     Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Chuck Reynolds - 1954-2003 - Chandlerville

    Chuck Reynolds, 48, of Chandlerville, died Thursday morning, Jan. 16, 2003, at his residence.
    He was born Feb. 1, 1954, in Jacksonville, the son of Wayne L. and Moneta Collins Reynolds.He married Sheila Barrett July 6, 1997, at Mount Olive Baptist Church in rural Chandlerville, and she survives.
    He is also survived by his mother, Moneta Bell of Springfield; one son, Dan Reynolds of Chandlerville; one daughter, Erynn Reynolds of
Chandlerville; one stepson, Michael Rogers of Virginia; one stepdaughter, Ronica Rogers of Chandlerville; one great-aunt; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
    Mr. Reynolds was a 1972 graduate of Chandlerville High School and was owner and operator of Reynolds Taxidermy for over 20 years in
Chandlerville. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, a Master Mason, an avid hunter and a member of the NRA.
    Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Olive Cemetery, east of Chandlerville. Margaret Ann Rice - 1937-2003 - Beardstown

    Margaret Ann Rice, 65, of Beardstown, died Monday afternoon, June 2, 2003 at her residence.
    She was born Dec. 12, 1937, in Beardstown, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Margaret Elizabeth Bell Carnahan. She married George Robert "Bob" Rice May 26, 1959, in Beardstown, and he survives.
    She is also survived by three sons, Eric Brian (companion, Mary Peterman) Jon Michael (companion, Elizabeth Coats), and Christopher Patrick (wife, Christina), all of Beardstown; seven grandchildren, Jessica Rice-Medina (husband, Beta), Jon Michael Rice II, Ashley Rice, Justice Rice, Tanner Rice, Sarah Coats and Aaron Coats, all of Beardstown; three brothers, Ben (wife, Carol) Carnahan of Oakwood, Thomas G. (wife, Doris) of Galesburg and Robert H. (wife, Dana) Carnahan of Effingham; and one sister, Elizabeth Jan (husband, Merle) Ring of Rushville. She was preceded in death by her parents.
    Mrs. Rice graduated from Beardstown High School in 1955, where she was very active in the Girls Athletic Association, chorus, and was an
all-state selection in band. While attending BHS she worked at Fergie's, a popular hang out for teens in the 1950's. After graduation, she attended Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing in Champaign, where she graduated in 1958. After graduation, she studied mental disorders in Anna, at the State Hospital. She continued her education throughout her nursing career. She worked at Schmidt Memorial Hospital in Beardstown from 1959 to 1983 where she was an obstetrics nurse and taught Lamaze. She also worked in the Emergency Room. She helped to deliver numerous babies from the Beardstown area. She was a floor supervisor at St. John's Hospital from 1983 to 1996 and also served as a director of Nursing at Heritage Manor in Beardstown.
    Mrs. Rice taught children's Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown during the 1960's and 1970's, and was also involved recently in the Sunday school program at the Beardstown Worship Center where she attended services. She was a volunteer Den
Mother of Cub Scouts, Brownie Scouts and 4-H from 1970 through 1978. She was active in American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and many other organizations and clubs. She decorated cakes for weddings, birthdays and special occasions. She was not only a
nurse throughout her life, she was very busy minded. She owned and operated ABC Ceramics from 1973 until 1983. She was a certified
Duncan Ceramics instructor who taught many Beardstown children the art of ceramics. She also co-owned and operated with her sister, Jan
Ring, the craft and antique shop, "Especially 4 You" located in downtown Beardstown, where she also offered Watkins, Avon and House
of Lloyd products. She helped coordinate the "Beardstown Block Watch Program" in 2001. She was involved with the start of "A Safe House
Program for Children" in 2002 and was recently given an award by the VFW Post 1239 for her years of service to the safety of children in
the community of Beardstown. She was very proud of her Irish heritage she had learned from her father. He taught her that her family roots
came from Antrium, a city on the coast of Ireland. She deeply loved her family and enjoyed raising her Irish named children. Everyone
felt very welcomed in her home.
    Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Goodwin Funeral Home of Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Vernon Richards - 1981-2003 - Virginia

   David Vernon "Vernon" Richards, 22 years, of Virginia, died Friday afternoon, Apr.11, 2003 in rural Virginia.
   He was born Feb. 24, 1981 in Springfield, the son of David A. Richards and Vickie E. Cox Richards.
   He is survived by his mother of Virginia; his father of Jacksonville; his brother, Daniel of Virginia; his maternal grandmother, Leota Cox of Virginia; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James David Cox; his paternal grandmother, Edna Mae McKinney; and his paternal grandfather, George Arthur Richards.
   Mr. Richards was employed at Scotty's Auto Parts in rural Virginia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was fond of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Betty Leona Riley - 1928-2003 - Virginia

   Betty Leona Riley, 74, of Virginia, died Thursday morning, May 22, 2003 at her residence.
   She was born July 12, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Carl H. and Elta Delancy Johnson. She married Paul M. Riley Feb. 28, 1949 in Arkansas and he survives.
   She is also survived by five sons, Walter Riley of Orlando, Fla., Alan (wife, Colleen) of Goffstown, N.H, Donald (wife, Donna) of Virginia, Edward (wife, Deb) of Waukesha, Wis., and Carl (wife, Sharon) of Smithfield; three daughters, Susan (husband, Jim) Shelts and Karen (husband, Rodney) Simonds, both of Jacksonville, and Beverly Bencher of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Kate and Kim Riley of Goffstown, N.H, Paul and David Riley of Virginia, Bryn and Claire Simonds of Jacksonville, and Jessica and Amber Bencher of Virginia; 5 step-grandchildren; one sister, Pat Riley of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Massa; and two brothers, Carl H. Johnson Jr. and Robert E. Johnson.
   Mrs. Riley graduated from Tri-City High School and later from Jacksonville School District #117 School of Practical Nursing. She was a nurse for Beardstown Hospital for many years until its closure. She then worked at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia until her retirement. She was a member of the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with family, shopping, flower gardening, and collecting Raggedy Anns and patriotic pins.

Melvin C. Ring - 1916-2003 - Virginia

     Melvin C. Ring, 86 years, of rural Virginia, IL died Saturday morning, Feb. 15, 2003, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.
     He was born April 26, 1916 in Cass County, the son of William F. and Elsie I. Meier Ring. He married Katherine R. Ross on Nov. 14, 1942, in St. Charles, Mo., and she survives.
     He is also survived by two sisters, Leta (husband, Jim) Webster of Virginia and Louise (husband, Jim) Wildt of Erie; three brothers, Arthur (wife, Alberta) of Rushville, Wilbur of Virginia, and Rev. George (wife, Doris) Ring of Des Moines, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Ring.
     Mr. Ring served with the U.S. Navy during WW II. He farmed in Cass County from 1954 until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia, Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau, and the American Legion. He enjoyed sporting events and rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Illinois Fighting Illini.

Myrtle A. Ring - 1902-2003 - Virginia

    Myrtle A. Ring, 100, of Virginia, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, 2003, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
    She was born Nov. 15, 1902, north of Virginia in Cass County, the daughter of Hiram and Ida Ernst Noblitt. She married Chris H. Ring, June 25, 1924, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in rural Arenzville, and he preceded her in death April 4, 1991.
    She is survived by two daughters, Onita Parlier of Virginia and Ida Mai Tegeder of Jacksonville; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon E. Noblitt; and two sisters, Viola J. Hughes and Della E. Carls.
    Mrs. Ring assisted her husband with their farming operation for many years and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Virginia. She
maintained an outgoing, caring personality and a wonderful sense of humor.

WILBUR E. RING 1933-2006 Virginia

   Wilbur E. Ring, 72, of Virginia, died Monday morning, May 22, 2006 at the home of his sister in Virginia.
   He was born July 24, 1933 in rural Virginia, the son of William F. and Elsie Meier Ring. He married Patsy L. Stidman on March 7, 1954, in Virginia, and she preceded in death on Dec. 19, 2000.
   He is survived by four sons, Steve (wife, Betty) of Springfield, Greg (wife, Susie) of Baylis, Gail (wife, Pat) of Bloomington, and Alan of Virginia; one daughter, Cyndee (husband, Bob) Blakeman of Petersburg; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Arthur (wife, Alberta) of Rushville; two sisters, Louise (husband, Jim) Wildt of Erie and Leta (husband, Jim) Webster of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death one sister, Mary Ring; and two brothers, Melvin (surviving wife, Katie of Virginia) and George (surviving wife, Doris of Des Moines, Iowa).
   Mr. Ring was a 1951 graduate of Virginia High School and attended the University of Illinois in Champaign. He served with the US Navy Seabees in the Philippines during the Korean War. He was employed several years with Fiat-Allis and later with Bunn-O-Matic Corporation, both in Springfield, prior to his retirement. He enjoyed assisting his brother, Melvin, with his farming operation. He was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Jeanne L. Robertson - 1926-2003 - Beardstown

    Jeanee L. Roberton, 77, of Beardstown, died Saturday afternoon, March 1, 2003, at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville.
    She was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Beardstown, the daughter of Paul Edward and Helen Louise Hanks Brown. She married William L. Robertson
July 7, 1945, in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death July 3, 1989.
    She is survived by two sons, Bill (wife, Angela) of rural Beardstown and David (wife, Bobette) of Bluff Springs; two daughters, Nancy (husband, Steve) Schnake of Virginia and Tina (husband, Michael) Morehead of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Joan (husband, Harris) Halvorson of Palm City, Fla.; three nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Edward Brown Jr., and four grandchildren.
    Mrs. Robertson graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1943 and then began her employment with Illinois Bell Telephone
Co. in Beardstown as a telephone operator for many years. She was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown where she sang in
the choir, was a member of Alter Society, and was a member of the Mother Cabrini Study Group. She formerly served as president of the Beards School PTA in Beardstown and president of the Schmidt Memorial/Hospital Auxilary. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs in Beardstown.
    Funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beard Cemetery on North
Bluff Springs Road near Beardstown. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with a rosary service being held 5 p.m. and the family will meet with friends after the rosary service until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.    Melford D. Robison, 65, of rural Chandlerville, died Sunday morning, March 30, 2003 at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   He was born Jan. 24, 1938 in Kilbourne, the son of George H. and Vesta W. Wallace Robison. He married Phyllis A. Shoemaker Nov. 16, 1962 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Mason County, Il. and she survives.
   He is also survived by two sons, Mick (wife, Teresa) of rural Chandlerville and Jamie (wife, Cathy) of rural Chandlerville; two grandchildren, Gilbert and Jacob Robison of rural Chandlerville; one brother, Ivan (wife, Clare) of Kilbourne; two sisters, Shirley (husband, Mike) Maletic of Peoria, Ariz. and Beverly (husband, Merle)  Daniels of Kilbourne; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Mr. Robison was employed at Fiat-Allis in Springfield for 25 years. He was a graduate of Bath Balyki High School and served with the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Chandlerville American Legion Post #694 and Bethel Baptist Church.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethel Baptist Church in Mason County with burial in Bethel Cemetery, adjacent to the church. Mrs. Rosendahl Dead After Week's Illness At Residence Here

    Mrs. Margareta Rosendahl, wife of Reak Rosendahl and a resident of this city most of her long life, died at her home here Friday evening June 26, following a weeks illness. She was 80 years old.
    Born May 24, 1862 at Chandlerville, she was the daughter of Benter and Gesche Gebhards. On March 10, 1881, she was married to Reak Rosendahl, and came to this community where she spent the remainder of her life. To them were born seven children, of whom five preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. H.B. Harms and Mrs. Selma Reinders of this city, and three grandchildren.
    During her girlhood, Mrs. Rosendahl was confirmed into the membership of St. Pauls church. She was a charter member of the Ladies Aid and was the first president of the organization, an office which she held for many years.

Nedra T. Roskelley - 1919-2003 - Chandlerville

    Nedra T. Roskelley, 86, of Chandlerville, died Saturday morning, July 5, 2003, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.
    She was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Roy L. and Edna Willey Tribe. She married Dr. Rigby Roskelley on Sept. 9, 1938, in Salt Lake City, and he preceded her in death May 13, 1999.
    She is survived by four sons, Ron (wife, Georgia) of Monett, Mo., David (wife, Mary) of Crystal Lake, John (wife, Susie) of Walla Walla, Wash., and Jim (wife, Paula) of Havana; one daughter, Becky Berg of Chandlerville; and two brothers, Howard Tribe of Ogden, Utah, and Royal Tribe of Salt Lake City; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother.
    Mrs. Roskelley was a homemaker. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Jacksonville and a member of the
Relief Society of the Church.
    Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Humanitarian Aid of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jacksonville.

    "Mrs. Kenneth 'Faye' Ross, 73, 509 West Main St., Beardstown, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Kloker of South Beardstown drainage district at 10:15 a.m. Sunday Feb. 19. [1989]
     She was born February 26, 1915 in Beardstown, the daughter of Curtis and Clara Dozier Logsdon. She married Kenneth Ross August 25, 1931 at Beardstown. He survives.
    She is also survived by: three daughters, Mrs. James 'Clara' Kloker, Rt. #1, Arenzville; Mrs. Don 'Helen' Long, Mt. Sterling; and Mrs. Charles
'Betty' Birdsell, Chandlerville; one son, ALbert Ross, Beardstown; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by: her parents, one grandson, David Kenneth Kloker and two brothers.
     Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Beardstown City Cemetery with Pastor James Beaty of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Beardstown officiating.
     Cline Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements."

   William "Bill" Rossi Jr., 91 years, of Virginia, IL died Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2005 at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown, IL.
   He was born February 17, 1914 in Auburn, IL; the son of William Sr. And Josephine Hock Rossi. He married Wilma H. Wallner on September 1, 1935 in Chatham, IL and she preceded in death on December 18, 1993.
   He is survived by son, Henry "Butch" Rossi of Lake Worth, FL; two daughters, Mary Jo Smith (husband, H.B.) Of Virginia and Donna Smith (husband, James) of St. Augustine, FL; 12 grandchildren, Michael Smith (wife, Roxan) of Moorecroft, WY, Debbie Mansfield (husband, G.R.) of Virginia, Susan Dahms (husband, Jeff) of Muskegon, MI, David Smith (wife, Carla) of Virginia, Anthony Rossi of Riverton, Brad Rossi of San Francisco, CA, Neal Rossi (wife, Rita) of Jacksonville, Jay Smith (wife, Dale) of Jacksonville, FL, Carrie Methvan (husband, Thomas) of Hastings, FL, Virginia Smith of St. Augustine, FL, Greg Smith (wife, Holly) of Hastings, FL, and Katie Kelly (husband, John) of Elkton, FL; 24 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Middleton of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Rossi.
   Mr. Rossi was a graduate of Auburn High School. He co-founded the East Side Tavern with his family, the first tavern in Virginia following prohibition. He later owned and operated Rossi's Restaurant for 14  years on the Virginia square, retiring in 1975. He also served on the Virginia Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia and was a former member of the Virginia Kiwanis Club and the Beardstown Elks Lodge.
   Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM Tuesday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, Virginia Volunteer Fire Department, or Virginia Park System.

George R. "Tootle" Rumble - 1922-2003 - Arenzville

    George R. "Tootle" Rumble, 80, of Arenzville and formerly of Jacksonville, died Thursday evening, July 17, 2003, at his daughter's residence in Arenzville.
    He was born July 20, 1922, in Cass County, the son of Charles and Mary Milner Rumble.
    Surviving are his wife, Verna, of Winchester; one son, Charles, of Oklahoma City; one daughter, R. Dianne (husband, Ronald) Miller of
Arenzville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John of Virginia and James of West Memphis, Ark.; and two sisters, Marge Collins and Mary Rumble, both of Virginia. He was preceded in death by one brother, Chase; and one sister, Louise Maul.
    Mr. Rumble attended school in Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 1943 until January 1947. He served in
the European Theater in Belguim and Germany and received a bronze star for participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was formerly employed with Virginia Packing Co. and then Oscar Mayer in Beardstown until he retired in February 1982 after 12 years of service. He later served as a volunteer at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
    Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. today at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet with friends from 10-11 a.m. today at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Mary Ann Ruppel - 1923-2002
    Mary Ann Ruppel, 79, of Virginia, died Friday afternoon Sept. 20, 2002, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
    She was born May 7, 1923, in Jacksonville, the daughter of J. Leo and Frances Plummer Devlin. She married Raymond A. Ruppel Nov. 29, 1958, in Ashland, and he survives.
    She is also survived by six children, Beth (husband, Lee), Auxier of Rochester, Rose of Virginia, Doris (husband, Earl) Allen of Mason City, Ruth (husband, Mark) Maxwell of Princeton, Mark (wife, Rachel) of Virginia and Rita of Virginia; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Sue E. Mahoney and Margaret P. Devlin, both of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Leo F. Devlin; and two brothers and one sister in infancy.
    Mrs. Ruppel graduated from Virginia High School in 1941 and from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. During World War II,
she served in the US Army Nurse Corps. She later was employed at St. John's Hospital and Dr. Brill's medical office, both in Springfield. She was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Virginia. She was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her children and grandchildren.
    A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, where the family will meet friends from 5:30-7:30 PM. A prayer service will be held 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research, to the Virginia Park System of the the charity of the donor's choice.
