Philadelphia; was born in Mercer County, Ky., Oct. 6, 1828; eldest child of a family of six, born to Elijah and Sophia (Haff) Carver, natives of Kentucky; he, still living; she, deceased. When three years old our subject was taken to Missouri by his parents, and three years after came to this county, where he has since resided; he left home when 21 years old, and has since been engaged in farming on his own account. In this county May 14, he married Sarah D. Howard, born in Fulton County, Map 15, 1832, daughter of John C. and Anna (Cadwelder) Howard, natives of Ohio, and both deceased; from this union seven children have been born, viz.: Elijah H., Mary E., wife of John W Fell, of Jacksonville, Ill.; Anna N., Helen, William, Dally and Elmer R.
